The masthead of the magazine is “academy magazine,” this
is most likely to be chosen as another word for school is academy. As every
young person has to attend school so it may apply to many young people and may
interest them into finding out more about school.
One of the first
thing my eyes were drawn to was the large image in which takes up most of the
page which is very effective and gives the reader more of an insight into what
the rest of the magazine is going to entail. The use of all small font gives an
impression of informality and shows that this magazine is more for young people
and students rather than for people high up in business which in that case
would have to be more formal and using the correct punctuation.
In this magazine there is no indication into the price or
how often it comes out. At the top of the magazine it says, “spring 2014” so it
gives some indication that it comes out every season so about four times a year.
The colour of the mast head and the rest of the front cover may show the colour
of the school uniform in which the pupils who attend this school wear. The
smart thoughtful slogan “learn for life” shows that this particular school show
a lot of interest into the thought of the people who again attend the school or
college, so for new comers and the people who are getting the magazine are
aware of the school slogan or motto so they know the kind of place and
environment they’re going to.
By the word “academy” meaning school or a place of
learning it immediately tells the reader before they read down the front cover
anymore that the magazine is going to have something to do with school. This
front cover is different to most other magazine front cover as it has no cover
lines on the front page so in order for the reader or the person buying the
magazine they will have to buy it before they find out what the contents of the
magazine is about. At the very bottom of the front cover of this magazine there
is some indication into what the magazine is about so that buyers wont just
leave it behind as they cant find out anything about it, but it says in smaller
white font, “what does on in academies and free schools” so the reader knows
what type of information this is magazine is going to provide for them but they
don’t know exactly what the stories are going to be based on.
As the large picture takes up most of the front cover it
is clear to see that the magazine is based on school and
that the main target audience is too students or parents of students that are
wanting to know more about this branch of schools. From the effervescent choice
of boys in the picture there is a more likely chance for the main target
audience to be young boys or men. Through wearing the uniform: as students of
the school, readers would be able to relate to the figures on the magazine and
their role within the school community and how well they carry out their school life. As the picture is close
to the students and looking at them from the waist up this means there is a mid
shot.
