Q Cover Analysis

 analysis.
Q is a popular music  magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom.Founders Mark Ellen and David Hepworth  were dismayed by the music press of the time, which they felt was ignoring a generation of older music buyers who were buying CDs  then still a new technology. Q was first published by the EMAP media group in October 1986, setting itself apart from much of the other music press with monthly production and higher standards of photography and Printing. In the early years, the magazine was sub-titled "The modern guide to music and more". Originally it was to be called Cue (as in the sense of cueing a record, ready to play), but the name was changed so that it wouldn't be mistaken for a snooker magazine. Another reason, cited in Q's 200th edition, is that a single-letter title would be more prominent on   newsstands.

With the popular demand for the magazine being produced and by it gathering in as many as 497,000 readers a month it soon became a publish that many advertising companies demanded to place advertisements in the monthly issue of Q Magazine
.
The use of the large letter Q in white writing with the red background such a simple effect that has become a hugely recognised universally  Q magazine is published monthly by a media company from the UK Bauer Media Group. This magazine is published monthly at the cost of £4.99 each. The sales of this magazine are continuously high with people demanding a copy every month. Not only does Q have a monthly it also has its own Television show and Radio show that both operate 24/7 with many viewers daily, this indicates that the demand for the magazine is very high if buyers are expanding to media also. Q also have their own awards ceremony which is a great incentive into how popular this magazine really is.
The use of the main image being the whol e size of the page allows the reader to easily distinguish that these men are going to be the main focus throughout the magazine. The use of David Grohl being placed up front creates a more personal effect to the magazine and it also allows the reader to see that hes either the main singer or someone who is very important in the band and that he is somone to takes the lead. The use of all the models making eye contact allows the reader to make a real connection with the model as he is making direct eye contact. This would encourage sales and may make a reader feel like the model featured is making direct address to them.

The use of the Q colour scheme of Red, white and black is also used through to this magazine allowing the reader to clearly see what the magazine they were about to read was a Q magazine.
The use of the “Puff”, exclusive CD is a huge thing in terms of getting people to buy the magazine. By including this it allows people to get that sense of getting to receive something free. As its not included in this image its placed on the real magazine itself. The use of the viberant yellow shape to advertise the free CD is clearly used in contrast with the red and white background so that people will instantly be drawn to the puff incuded.

The use of the pull quotes used also add a personal touch to the magazine making it more lighthearted and this will attract more people to buy it. As this certain quote is from David Grohl and he is such a well known artist world wide this will attract a lot of people to buy this magazine to get to see what is story is going to include. The use of the Foo Fighters name placed in large black block capitals allows anyone is unfimilar with this particular band to be made away of who this was who is featured as the main image on the front cover.
The use of the smaller image of prince gives the reader an insight that the Foo Fighters aren’t going to be the only ones featured within the magazine. The use of the feature “20 page special “ is used to promote the magazine itself , making a point of interest to the reader. The use of the pull quote placed beside also shows a personal side to the magazine and fans of Prince will also want to read this magazine even if they have no interest in the Foo Fighters. As the  cover line of this story ddoesn'tgive away too much about the story many people will be curious and will want to continue reading to see what the story is about.

The use of the smaller stories that are going to also be featured in the magazine are deliberately used to give people of the public and insight into what else to expect in the magazine without giving to much information away. These stories are introduced in smaller black, block capitals so that people don't pass by them and not read them.
